Effective from May 5th, 2024, the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has reinstated the acceptance of TOEFL iBT tests for visa purposes, marking a significant development for individuals aspiring to study or work in Australia.
This decision comes after a hiatus announced by the DHA in July of the previous year, which temporarily halted the acceptance of TOEFL iBT tests for visa applications until further notice (TKN 24/7/23).
Expressing gratitude for the DHA’s meticulous review process, a spokesperson for Educational Testing Service (ETS) emphasized the TOEFL iBT’s alignment with the stringent English proficiency standards set by the Australian government. With recognition from over 12,500 institutions worldwide and 100% acceptance by Australian universities, TOEFL iBT stands as a premier assessment of academic English proficiency.
In their statement to Koala News, ETS expressed enthusiasm for supporting learners and skilled workers seeking opportunities in Australia through TOEFL iBT, highlighting its role in facilitating access to education and employment opportunities globally.
It is imperative to note that TOEFL iBT tests for Australian visa purposes must be conducted at authorized test centers, as online tests are not currently accepted by the Australian government.
Furthermore, tests taken between July 26th, 2023, and May 4th, 2024, are considered invalid for visa applications. However, tests administered prior to July 26th, 2023, remain valid for a duration of two years.
For individuals seeking detailed information on English language requirements and document checklist tools, the DHA’s official website serves as a valuable resource.
This announcement signals a renewed opportunity for individuals across the globe aiming to pursue academic or professional endeavors in Australia, with TOEFL iBT serving as a pivotal gateway to realizing their aspirations.
